About the Instagram Story Downloader
Stories disappear after 24 hours, and Instagram sends the uploader a notice when you screenshot one. Pasting the Story link here downloads the underlying file instead — no screenshot, no notification, no quality loss from re-capturing the screen.
Video Stories come back as MP4 and photo Stories as JPG, both at the resolution the account originally uploaded. Once the 24 hours are up the file is gone from Instagram's servers, so nothing can recover it — save it while it is still live.

Questions
Will the person know?
Downloading does not notify anyone. Note that simply opening a Story already marks you in the uploader's viewer list — that happens in the Instagram app, before this tool is involved.
Can I get a Story from a private account?
No. Private accounts are only readable by approved followers, and this tool has no account to log in with.
Can I recover an expired Story?
No. Once the 24 hours pass, Instagram deletes the file and there is nothing left to fetch.
